Plaque 4 - Construction of the Church

The Church was built in 1505 and has been incorporated into the diocese of Málaga. As was the custom, it was built on the site of the Mosque, superimposing Christian culture and religion on to the vestiges of the Arabian.

The new construction follows the Mudejar style, resulting in a structure of three naves surrounding seven pointed arches and a coffered ceiling. The site has been declared one of cultural and historic interest.

Continue down the hill and turn left into Calle Banco. Keep following the footsteps which lead in a loop slightly outside the town and back into Calle Francisco Romero Diego which brings you into the Plaza de los Verdiales. Coming out of the square turn left and continue downhill. Turn left again.
