Walks in and around Comares

Inside the town, there is a short, marked route allowing visitors to discover more about the history of Comares - The Footsteps of History. From the balconies, Comares commands spectacular views of the surrounding countryside, with ravines, riverbeds, stands of Spanish oak, olives, almonds and vines. The variety of flora is attributed to the nature of the rocky landscape which features slate, granite and limestone, each with differing agricultural properties.
There are five marked routes, but be warned - do not attempt any but the easiest in the summer months - dress appropriately, wear walking boots, and always take plenty of water and a mobile phone! There are few places where you can buy drinks on route other than Comares itself and Los Ventorros. You have been warned!
The trails are marked and colour coded and there are two large notice boards describing the routes: one by the entrance to the main square and one by Plaque No. 6, The Velez-Málaga Gate. There are also leaflets in the Town Hall which describe the walks and include maps.
