Annually on January 14
The 13th January is the official day and a local holiday in the region. However, the town celebrates the event on the 17th this year. Think of it like the Queen's Birthday.
St. Hilario of Poitiers was born in France in the 4th Century and became Bishop of Poitiers. As far as we know he never visited Spain but the history of Comares records that a battle took place in 1442 between the Moors and Christians. The battle took place on the 1076th anniversary of the death of San Hilario and it is believed that this was the reason for adopting him as the patron saint of Christian Comares. Personally I think it's any excuse for a knees-up.
